FirstNet’s Plan to Maximize Value for Public Safety

By Amanda Murphy

FirstNet is moving closer to deploying a dedicated, nationwide LTE radio communications network for public safety. This modern, interoperable structure will allow agencies across the U.S. to use new technologies with increased capacity on a single network.

According to FirstNet, there are currently more than 10,000 separate, incompatible radio networks in use by public safety personnel across the country. With its nationwide network,  FirstNet plans to leverage economies of scale, driving down costs for public safety end-users by providing one network. With potentially millions of users on a single network, FirstNet hopes to foster a new ecosystem with an increasingly competitive marketplace for delivering services and applications through the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network.
