Carson City, NVConnect Nevada has hired Ariel Martinez to serve as Community Technology Advisor. In that role, Martinez will coordinate and manage the activities of regional planning teams across the state, particularly in the following counties: Clark, Douglas, Esmeralda, Eureka, Lincoln, Mineral , Nye, and White Pine.

He will provide “train-the-trainer” activities to the regional planning teams on the broadband landscape to spur digital literacy activities in each region. In addition, with assistance from Connected Nation’s communications staff and the volunteers of the regional planning teams, Martinez will work to increase regional and local awareness of the planning teams, the planning process, the benefits of increased broadband adoption, and Connect Nevada through the media and local organizations.

“Ariel’s strong background in economic development will definitely be an asset as we start to engage local communities in the planning process,” says Connect Nevada Program Coordinator Lindsey Niedzielski. “His experience in strategic planning will guide communities as we address broadband issues related to access, adoption and use across the state.”

Martinez, a 15 year resident of Reno, has more than a dozen years of combined experience in both the private and the public sector. His work with Hilton Hotels Corporation led to the creation of an industry standard for the deployment of broadband network and guest high-speed Internet access in the hotels. His work in the government sector focused on economic and community development as well as programs and funds management.

Martinez earned his M.S. degree in Applied Resource Economics from the University of Nevada, Reno and an M.A. in Business Economics Research from the University of Asia & the Pacific.
